A man accused of drunken driving in a fatal crash in central Las Vegas on Friday was drinking at a strip club prior to the collision, according to a police report in the case.

Jakari Jquan Miles, 22, of North Las Vegas, had a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit after the crash, a prosecutor said in court Tuesday.

Miles is charged with DUI and reckless driving causing death in the 9:10 a.m. crash on Highland Drive south of Edna Avenue. The Metropolitan Police Department said in an arrest report for Miles that he was driving a 2025 Nissan Altima with two others in the car when it slammed into the back of a Volvo semi-truck legally parked on the side of the road.

A passenger in Miles’ car was killed. The Clark County coroner’s office identified the passenger as Roberto Navarro-Rico, 28.

Clark County prosecutor Dallin Albright said Miles’ blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.21 percent and 0.20 percent after the crash. The legal limit in Nevada is 0.08 percent.

Police said another passenger in the car, identified in the report as a Kosmas Sanchez, told investigators the trio had just been at Spearmint Rhino’s Gentleman’s Club, 3340 S. Highland Drive, and were headed to the Circa resort at the time.

“They all consumed alcohol there and left together, with Miles driving,” police said.

Sanchez told police a vehicle had swerved into their lane, causing the crash. Police, however, said they obtained video from a nearby business, and investigators also examined data from the Nissan. A preliminary speed analysis showed the car was traveling at 56 mph in a 35 mph zone shortly before the crash.

“The totality of the evidence shows a clear pattern of driving consistent with impairment,” police said. “The Nissan approached the Volvo in a straight manner with little to no driver input. It then performed no avoidance maneuvers until the final moment, striking the rear of it.”

Albright asked Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure to set a bail of $250,000. Defense attorney Marsella Saldanha of the Clark County public defender’s office said Miles could only afford $1,500. She noted Miles has no criminal history, works at an Amazon warehouse, is a graduate of Desert Pines High School and has strong local family support.

Bonaventure set bail at $25,000. If Miles posts the bail, he will be placed on high-level electronic monitoring and is prohibited from driving or consuming alcohol or drugs.
