Crews across Nevada have been battling wildfires for several weeks during this hot, dry summer.
Here is the situation across some of the hotspots:
Ward Fire
The Ward Fire, about nine miles southwest of Ely, is currently at 5,717 acres and zero percent contained. Crews with the Henderson, North Las Vegas, Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments have been dispatched to the scene and expected to be gone for about two weeks.
New Pass Fire
The 31,613-acre wildfire about 30 miles northwest of Austin is 42 percent contained. More than 310 personnel have battled the blaze, which was believed to be started by lightning July 26.
Crews are working with private interests to repair roads to the west of the fire. If necessary, and if weather allows, tactical burning may resume Monday near Gilbert Road. Crews are also planning tactical burns near New Pass Mine Road on the south side. Residents and travelers in the area should expect increased smoke during the operation.
Mouse Meadow Fire
This wildfire in Nye County on withdrawn lands of the Nevada National Security Site and Nevada Test and Training Range is at 37,553 acres and uncontained as of 6 p.m. Sunday. Fire spread to the northwest has been checked by the 2025 Gothic burn scar, while active fire progression continues to the northeast.
Quail Springs Fire
This wildfire in Lincoln County on withdrawn lands of the Nevada Test and Training Range and BLM lands within the BLM Ely District is at 13,619 acres and 30 percent contained as of 6 p.m. Sunday. Fire activity remained minimal, with creeping and smoldering fire behavior contained within established control lines.
