I believe the majority of people in our local communities will concur, as I do, with Linda Cassaro’s Friday letter to the editor stating that District Judge Jennifer Schwartz did absolutely no justice with her sentence of probation for Jesus Barraza. This man took someone’s life with his intentional actions of driving recklessly, and the judge called it a young man’s bad decision. A bad decision was Judge Schwartz giving this man probation instead of prison time.
We have one of the highest pedestrian death rates in this country, and these types of sentences contribute even more to the problem as it appears there are no consequences for killing innocent people on our streets. This does not make our community safer and we will remember this bad decision by Judge Schwartz when she faces re-election.
