In her recent letter to the editor (“HR failure”), Poppy Helgren wants answers in the recent altercation between two city of Las Vegas maintenance workers that led to a man’s death. She want to know why multiple issues were reported to supervisors, as well as to Human Resources, but nothing was done. As one who works in the environment, I can tell you exactly the problem: union membership.
From what I’ve read so far, this situation — like most others — is “they said, they said.” Good luck changing a union member’s schedule or worksite assignment. Throw in managers who have been beaten down over the years with the complaints that they can’t do anything about and you have quite the toxic situation.
