A 73-year-old woman struck near the Las Vegas Strip on the Fourth of July by a driver suspected of impaired driving has died.
The woman died Saturday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a release Monday. It is the 61st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
The crash occurred just before 9:45 p.m. on East Sahara Avenue, east of South Van Patten Street. Investigators say that the pedestrian was crossing Sahara outside of a marked or implied crosswalk when she was struck by a 2025 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Sahara.
The driver, identified as Robert Gonzales-Flores, 33, of Las Vegas, immediately brought his vehicle to a controlled stop east of the intersection. Police say he showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. He was released on his own recognizance and has a status check scheduled for Sept. 2.
