I couldn’t agree more with T. Mayer’s recent letter to the editor regarding blatant water waste at public parks. I walk my dog at Silverado Ranch Park at 5 a.m. every day. When I arrived one recent morning, the water was flooding one of the ball fields. An hour later when leaving the sprinklers were still on, but now the water was running off the field, eroding the ground as it ran down the sidewalk and into the parking lot. Who knows how long it continued.
This was the fourth or fifth time I observed the park flooding uncontrollably. I reported the waste each time. This is one park out of more than 100. How many others are mismanaged, and why does this continue unchecked? Rest assured that, if those responsible were footing the bill, it wouldn’t be a problem. In the meantime, water runs down the proverbial drain — along with our tax dollars.
