I have been reading in the Review-Journal about the tragic shooting death of a city of Las Vegas employee at the hands of a fellow employee. How does the city’s Human Resources Department allow such a dispute between employees to brew for six months without doing something concrete to rectify the situation?
The Review-Journal’s recent editorial on the matter brought out excellent points, such as questioning whether this would have been tolerated in the private sector. The supervisor of the two employees said that he outlined the issues to Human Resources five or six times. A lack of being proactive when HR officials were aware of a problem contributed to the tragic outcome.
The Review-Journal has reported on bullying in Nevada government departments more than once. There appears to be a pattern of inaction by Human Resources departments in the city, county and state. It is time for an investigation into this to learn the root cause of this dismal failure of oversight.
