UNLV baseball coach Nick Garritano is turning to former Southern Nevada high school baseball stars to fill his roster at his new program.
The Rebels this month have added nine players, including a mix of college transfers and graduating high school seniors, as announced on the team’s social media accounts.
Six of those signed players have local ties: Bishop Gorman outfielder DaMari Hall, Sacramento State transfer Chase Sorlie (Faith Lutheran, RHP), Arizona transfer Chaz McNelis (Green Valley, OF), Utah transfer Seth Graham-Pippin (Desert Oasis, RHP), Utah Tech transfer Miller Durham (Faith Lutheran, 1B), and College of Southern Nevada transfer Caden Kirby (Green Valley, INF).
On Monday, the Bishop Gorman two-sport star Hall, who was originally committed to play football at Washington State, signed to the Rebels to play baseball.
McNelis (2024-25), Graham-Pippin (2024-25) and Kirby (2026) all previously played under Garritano at CSN.
Three other players have announced their commitments to UNLV on their personal social media accounts: Arbor View shortstop Devin Martin, New Mexico State transfer Asa Briggs (SECTA) and Liberty High pitcher/infielder Shawn Mack.
Martin, a first-team All-Southern Nevada infielder this spring as a senior, was previously committed to CSN. Mack went 5-3 with a 5.38 ERA on the mound as a senior last season and was a first-team All-Southern Nevada selection.
Hall was a first-team All-Southern Nevada outfielder last year, and hit .442 with five home runs, 42 hits and 43 RBIs as a senior to help lead the Gaels to the Class 5A state title.
Garritano was named the UNLV coach on May 29 after the retirement of Stan Stolte. Garritano, a former UNLV football kicker, previously coached CSN for 16 seasons, going 632-271 and with two Junior College World Series appearances.
The Chaparral High graduate also coached baseball for 12 seasons at Green Valley.
