A Clark County man’s estate is suing Ross Dress for Less and Juicy Couture after an allegedly defective product led to his death.

The estate of Jude Anthony Sanchez filed a lawsuit against Ross Dress for Less and Juicy Couture, which is owned by Authentic Brands Group, alleging a defective step stool led to his death.

The lawsuit was filed June 11 in the Clark County District Court with a demand for a jury trial. The estate is suing for wrongful death, negligence, strict liability and breach of warranty.

Ross Dress for Less and Authentic Brands Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Lawsuit details

According to the lawsuit, a Juicy Couture-branded step stool was purchased at the Ross Dress for Less store at 2100 N. Rainbow Blvd., Suite 110 prior to the incident on July 30.

On July 30, Sanchez used the stool to get out of the bed of his truck. When he stepped on it, the platform allegedly “collapsed, causing him to fall to the ground from the bed of his truck,” the lawsuit stated.

Sanchez died Aug. 23, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. His death was ruled an accident, with complications from multiple rib fractures listed as the cause of death. He was 76.

The estate is seeking general and compensatory damages in excess of $15,000; special damages exceeding $15,000; damages for medical care and treatment costs and related expenses; reasonable attorney fees; court costs and interest; as well as any other relief the court deems just and proper.
