NASCAR Hall of Famer and Las Vegas native Kurt Busch released a statement on his social media accounts Monday morning in his first public comments since the passing of younger brother Kyle Busch.
In an Instagram post with several pictures of Kurt with Kyle, Kurt Busch thanked everyone who reached out and supported the family, and honored Kyle over the past few weeks.
“Finding a silver lining, I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands one,” the post said. “From big wheels to competing on the biggest stages in motorsports, we were more than just fierce competitors. We pushed each other, challenged each other and learned from each other.”
Kurt Busch attended the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, on May 23 in the first Cup Series race since Kyle’s death. Kurt was alongside father Tom and mother Gaye, and placed eight white roses on the infield of the track where Kyle’s No. 8 was painted on the grass.
“Kyle, your passion, determination and love for your family inspired everyone who knew you,” Kurt Busch’s post continued. “No trophy, championship or accomplishment could ever measure the impact you had on my life and so many others.”
Kyle’s 11-year-old son Brexton, posted on Monday to his social media accounts photos of him racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway from last week with no captions or messages written on the posts to his X and Instagram post.
Kurt Busch’s post concluded: “I will forever be grateful for the memories we made, the lessons you taught me and the brotherhood we shared. My heart is broken, but I know your spirit will always ride with me. Rest easy, little brother.”
