On May 7, 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-South Carolina, introduced Violet’s Law. This humane bill sends released laboratory animals — chimps, baboons, orangutans, dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits — to welcoming nature sanctuaries for adoption. These animals are now placed in incinerators to become ashes.
Violet’s Law involves no tax dollars. These animals have had no life prior. They’ve had organs removed and been starved, dehydrated, kept in isolation, had their eyelids sewn back to keep theirs eyes open and been injected with needles and medication to test for human effectiveness, which generally is less than 10 percent relevant because we are not those animals.
The bill has yet to passed. Perhaps a call or email to your representative will remind them of the urgency.
This ongoing, cruel, unnecessary death of tortured, beautiful animals is un-American, especially when Violet’s Law can be passed by a voice vote of Congress.
