RALEIGH, N.C. — The Vegas Golden Knights rallied late to force overtime, but the Carolina Hurricanes completed the comeback to win 4-3 in overtime in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center on Thursday.
The best-of-seven series is tied at a game apiece. Game 3 is at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.
Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis fired a one-timer from the left circle 3:56 into overtime on the power play. Knights center Tomas Hertl was called for tripping to give Carolina the man advantage.
It’s the Knights’ first overtime loss of the playoffs in four tries.
The Hurricanes stormed back from two goals down in the third to take a 3-2 lead on captain Jordan Staal’s power-play goal with 4:35 left.
The man advantage came after coach John Tortorella lost a challenge after an apparent goal for winger Ivan Barbashev was waved off.
With goaltender Carter Hart pulled for the extra attacker, captain Mark Stone tied it on a rebound with 1:21 to go.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead into the third period thanks to goals from playoff leader Brett Howden, who tied Jonathan Marchessault’s franchise record with 13 in a single postseason.
Carolina rallied with three goals in 5:05 to take the lead.
Center Logan Stankoven ended Hart’s shutout bid at 10:20 with a wrap-around, and center Mark Jankowski tied it 2:26 later.
Hart finished with 22 saves, and Mitch Marner had two assists
