Vegas Golden Knights fans who tune into a future Las Vegas City Council meeting to see Mayor Shelley Berkley wearing another hockey team’s jersey would be reminded of heartbreak at the Stanley Cup Final.
The inverse could be true for Mayor Janet Cowell of Raleigh, North Carolina.
In what’s become a tradition fueled by social media, the mayors placed a bet that hinges on the results of the Stanley Cup Final matchup between the Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes, which starts Tuesday.
With friendly banter, the mayor outlined the bet’s terms in recorded videos posted on X.
“If I were you,” Berkley said, “I would never bet against Vegas.”

She said Cowell had agreed to wear a Golden Knights jersey at her City Council meeting if the Las Vegas team was victorious. The Raleigh mayor would also send barbecue.
Cowell would also get a gift basket if her team wins, Berkley said.
“I am very excited,” she added, “I accept your challenge.”

In her video, Cowell asked Berkley for a custom sequin-decorated Hurricanes jersey if her team wins “because Vegas is good at bling.”
