Las Vegas native Kyle Busch’s memory has stayed on the minds of NASCAR fans since his passing.
As racers’ cars howled while rounding into their eighth lap of the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway on Sunday, a trend honoring Busch that could become tradition surfaced again.
Amazon Prime’s broadcast was the latest to embrace a moment of silence for Busch on Lap 8, while fans held up eight fingers in tribute of Busch after his abrupt death on May 21 due to a battle with pnuemonia that progressed into sepsis.

A moment of silence on Lap 8 was also held during broadcasts at the Nashville O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in Nashville last weekend and the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte just three days after Busch’s death.
Busch drove the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing for the past four seasons. The car was renumbered to No. 33, as NASCAR plans to save No. 8 for Busch’s son, Brexton, 11, for when he makes it to NASCAR. Busch also raced the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing from 2008 to 2022, winning two Cup Series titles under the number.
As the NASCAR season carries on, expect many fans to continue their tribute to Busch around the country.
Fans engaged in a similar tribute for Dale Earnhardt in the season following his death. A “three-finger salute” during Lap 3 of the Daytona 500, the race Earnhardt died in 25 years ago, eventually evolved into a tradition.
Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Busch paved his path to NASCAR, could be the site of a similar tradition for Busch beyond this season.
