A man accused of killing a toddler and woman in Las Vegas appeared in court Monday after being arrested in Utah.
Ziaire Ham, 22, was indicted in April on counts of murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
He had a brief hearing in Las Vegas Justice Court where Justice of the Peace Rebecca Saxe said Ham’s justice court case would be dismissed because of his grand jury indictment.
Ham was arrested in connection with the March 2 fatal shootings of Nhalani Hiner, 1, and her mother’s friend, 20-year-old Danaijha Robinson, who were found inside an SUV in the 11000 block of Victoria Medici Street.
Police said he confessed and said he believed he was being followed. He said he knew the victims’ car did not belong in the area of the shooting and fired into it when the person inside would not get out.
He told detectives he did not know a child was in the car, but police said he became upset when he learned of the toddler’s death.
“Ziaire uttered, ‘I didn’t mean to kill that person. I killed a child, I killed a child,” according to a report.
