A man police said fatally stabbed another man at a central Las Vegas apartment complex during a fight told investigators that he feared for his life at the time.
Vincent Rodriguez, 43, is charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon in the May 20 killing of Davon Greer, 28, of Las Vegas.
In an arrest report for Rodriguez, police said multiple people were outside of their apartments in the complex in the 3800 block of Cambridge Street, near East Flamingo Road and South Maryland Parkway, just after 12 a.m. Wednesday when a fight broke out between Rodriguez and Greer.
Rodriguez told police he was roaming around the apartment complex when he claimed Greer was being “verbally aggressive” towards him, so Rodriguez went to the area where Greer was on the third floor of the apartments. Rodriguez claimed Greer “chest bumped” him and attempted to punch him, police said, prompting Rodriguez to brandish a knife and stab Greer.
“He stated he felt he was in fear for his life because he didn’t know how the fight was going to end,” police said Rodriguez told them.
There is no mention in Rodriguez’s arrest report of Greer being armed. Greer was quoted by one witness as saying he intended to knock out Rodriguez moments before the stabbing.
Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Wednesday.
