4A-1A baseball, softball roundup: Silverado rallies past Clark

Silverado’s baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, which helped the Skyhawks defeat Clark 6-5 in a Class 4A state winners bracket semifinal on Saturday at Las Vegas High.

Silverado (20-10-1), the Desert League’s No. 1 seed, advances to play SECTA, the league’s No. 2 seed, at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Sierra Vista in a winners bracket final. The winner advances to the 4A title game on May 16.

Clark (22-9), the Mountain League’s No. 1 seed, falls to the losers bracket and will face Spring Valley at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sierra Vista in an elimination game.

No. 2D SECTA 7, No. 1S Mater East 2: At Mater East, Briggs Barlow went 2-for-4 with two RBIS to help the Roadrunners (16-16) defeat Mater East in a state winners bracket semifinal.

Mater East (24-7), the Sky League’s No. 1 seed, falls to the losers bracket and will play Rancho at noon Thursday at Sierra Vista in an elimination game.

No. 2S Rancho 7, No. 4M Cheyenne 2: At Rancho, Nolan Leppelmeier threw a complete game, with five strikeouts and two runs allowed on four hits, to help the Rams (14-16), the Sky League’s No. 2 seed, defeat the Mountain League’s No. 4 seed Cheyenne (20-11) in an elimination game.

No. 2M Spring Valley 10, No. 4S Western 0: At Sierra Vista, Brayden Lenahan threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the Grizzlies (16-15-1), the Mountain League’s No. 2 seed, past Western (15-15), the Sky League’s No. 4 seed, in an elimination game. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Class 3A

No. 1 Boulder City 16, No. 4 Virgin Valley 6: At Boulder City, the Eagles lost the first game 17-9 to force the if-necessary game, but they bounced back to defeat Virgin Valley in the second game to win the 3A Southern League title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Thursday at Spanish Springs High in Sparks.

Boulder City (18-12), the South’s No. 1 seed, plays Wooster, the North’s No. 2 seed, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Virgin Valley (19-9), the South’s No. 2 seed, plays Northern champion Elko at 1 p.m.

Class 2A

No. 3 Needles 15, No. 2 Lake Mead Academy 5: At the Meadows, Needles lost the first game 5-3 to force the deciding game, but rolled to win the second game to win the 2A Southern League title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Thursday at Needles.

Needles (15-12), the South’s No. 1 seed, plays the North’s No. 2 seed Yerington at 1 p.m. Thursday. Lake Mead Academy (18-6), the South’s No. 2 seed, plays Northern champion North Tahoe at 3:30 p.m.

Class 1A

No. 1S Pahranagat Valley 15, No. 2S Liberty Baptist 0: At Indian Springs, the Panthers, the Southern League’s No. 1 seed, rolled past the Knights, the Southern League’s No. 2 seed, to win the 1A Southern Region title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins on Thursday at Smith Valley High.

Pahranagat Valley (19-7-1), the South’s No. 1 seed, plays the North’s No. 2 seed Mineral County at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Liberty Baptist (13-15), plays Northern champion Smith Valley at 1 p.m.

Softball

Class 4A

No. 1D Faith Lutheran 4, No. 2S Foothill 1: At Faith Lutheran, Madison Pitts threw a complete game, with 11 strikeouts and allowing one hit and one unearned run to lead the Crusaders (25-1) to a win in a 4A state winners bracket semifinal.

Faith Lutheran, the Desert League’s No. 1 seed, next plays Desert Oasis at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Sierra Vista in a winners bracket final. The winner advances to the state title game on May 16.

Foothill (17-9), the Sky League’s No. 2 seed, falls to the losers bracket and will play SECTA at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sierra Vista in an elimination game.

No. 2D Desert Oasis 11, No. 3D Spring Valley 1: At Sierra Vista, Alissa Perkins had two RBIs and earned a complete-game victory on the mound with 10 strikeouts to lead the Diamondbacks (16-2), the Desert League’s No. 2 seed, to a win in a state winners bracket semifinal.

Spring Valley (17-8), the Desert League’s No. 3 seed, will play Legacy at noon Thursday at Sierra Vista in an elimination game.

No. 1M Legacy 12, No. 4D Sierra Vista 2: At Legacy, the Longhorns (24-9), the Mountain League’s No. 1 seed, scored 10 runs in the third inning to defeat Sierra Vista (10-10), the Desert League’s No. 4 seed, in an elimination game.

No. 1S SECTA 17, No. 4S Silverado 7: At SECTA, the Roadrunners (21-5), the Sky League’s No. 1 seed, rolled past Silverado (15-12), the Sky League’s No. 4 seed, in an elimination game.

Class 3A

No. 2 Virgin Valley 5, No. 1 Pahrump Valley 4: At Boulder City, Virgin Valley (21-12) defeated the Trojans (30-8) twice on Saturday, 12-6 in the first game to force the if-necessary game, to win the 3A Southern League title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins May 14 at Spanish Springs.

Virgin Valley, the South’s No. 1 seed, will play the North’s No. 2 seed Lowry at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Pahrump Valley, the South’s No. 2 seed, plays Northern champion Fernley at 1:30 p.m.

Class 2A

No. 1 Needles 15, No. 2 White Pine 5: At The Meadows, Needles (16-14) won twice on Saturday, including opening the day with an 11-1 win to force the deciding game, to defeat White Pine (17-8) to claim the 2A Southern League title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Thursday at Needles.

Needles, the South’s No. 1 seed, plays Yerington, the North’s No. 2 seed, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. White Pine, the South’s No. 2 seed, plays Northern champion Battle Mountain at 3:30 p.m.

Class 1A

No. 1 Pahranagat Valley 12, No. 3 Round Mountain 5: At Indian Springs, the Panthers (19-7) rolled past the Knights (13-7) to win the 1A Southern League title.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, which begins Thursday at Smith Valley.

Pahranagat Valley, the South’s No. 1 seed, will play Pyramid Lake, the North’s No. 2 seed, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Round Mountain, the South’s No. 2 seed, plays Northern champion Wells at 1:30 p.m.
