More than 100 workers at a Strip megaresort secured a new, multi-year labor deal, the employees’ union announced Thursday.
Members of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 501 working at The Cosmopolitan hotel-casino voted to ratify their second union contract with the property, according to a news release.
The agreement, which covers engineers, support engineers and laborers, will expire in 2029.
The union had been negotiating with The Cosmopolitan since January.
“By sticking together as a union, our bargaining team was able to win a contract that brought the property in alignment with the standards established with other strip properties,” Jose Soto, director of organizing for IUOE Local 501, said in a statement. “We also achieved a common expiration date across many of our Strip agreements, strengthening our ability to move forward together in future negotiations.”
MGM Resorts International, operator of The Cosmopolitan, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The new IUOE Local 501 deal includes pay increases of $12.08 for slot technicians and $9.98 for engineers, overtime pay after eight hours in a day, employer contributions to the IUOE pension, health, and training funds, potential license and certification bonuses annually, supplemental annuity retirement benefit, and premiums for swing and grave shifts. The two sides also agreed to a training review committee with an equal number of employer and union representatives to identify training needs and address them in real time, according to the release.
“I’m proud of our bargaining committee and all of our members for the steady work it took to reach this agreement,” said Scot Motl, organizer for IUOE Local 501 in Las Vegas. “Throughout the collective bargaining process, members made their priorities clear, and their engagement led to real gains in their contract.”
International Union of Operating Engineers Local 501 represents more than 10,000 workers across Nevada, Arizona and Southern California.
