A recent poll showed 53 percent of those under 30 favored socialism over capitalism. However, the fact that any government financially supports its constituents, in part, does not cast that relationship as socialism.
Socialism is a concept under which the government controls everything including property. Anything less than that constitutes something else. The film “1984” depicts what socialism, in an abstract form, would look like. Everyone who thinks they admire socialism should watch that film.
When you think of social benefits, you need only to look at the preamble of our Constitution to see that two of the objectives of our government are to insure domestic tranquility and promote the general welfare. We don’t need full-blown socialism to improve ourselves. We need only to work within what we have.
