Two men were sentenced to federal prison this week for their roles in a 2023 fatal drug overdose on the Las Vegas Strip, according to prosecutors.
Izaiah Flood and Davon Johnson each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance after prosecutors said they sold counterfeit pills to a person on the Strip, according to a release Thursday by federal prosecutors. Prosecutors said they represented the pills as ecstasy but that the pills actually contained fentanyl.
Flood and Johnson each received a 13-year sentence, prosecutors said. Flood was sentenced Thursday and Johnson was sentenced on April 27, according to a U.S. Department of Justice spokesperson.
Prosecutors said that hours after the victim took one of the counterfeit pills, they had suffered cardiac arrest and were declared brain dead before their death, according to the release. The victim was not named in the release and was only identified in court documents as “A.N.”
“Fentanyl is a scourge to our communities and in this instance, a person’s life was lost,” said Sigal Chattah, first assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Nevada, in a statement. “Working with our law enforcement partners, we are committed to prosecuting drug dealers who are plaguing our communities with dangerous and deadly drugs like fentanyl and ensuring justice is served for the victim and their loved ones.”
