The UNLV football and basketball teams could get more exposure starting in the fall.
Thanks to a partnership announced Wednesday between ESPN and CW Sports, the new-look Mountain West will have select football and men’s and women’s basketball games streamed live on the ESPN App. The deal makes the ESPN App the streaming home for CW Sports live events and is available for all ESPN Unlimited plan subscribers.
The Mountain West announced in February its new media rights package with CW Sports that debuts in the fall with 13 regular-season football games, 20 regular-season men’s basketball games and 15 regular-season women’s basketball games shown on The CW Network.
“Bringing CW Sports to the ESPN App is another step in delivering more value, choice and flexibility for fans, expanding the range of live sports available within our streaming ecosystem,” said Rosalyn Durant, Executive Vice President, ESPN Programming & Acquisitions, in a statement. “This agreement gives fans even more live sports to watch year-round within the ESPN Unlimited plan, while extending the reach of CW Sports to new audiences. As we continue to evolve ESPN’s direct-to-consumer experience, collaborations like this allow us to better serve fans by making more of the sports they love available in one place.”
Fans will still be able to watch CW Sports broadcasts live on The CW Network over-the-air television. The Mountain West’s deal with the network runs through the 2030-31 season.
CW Sports has not announced its schedule for the fall, and it’s unclear how many UNLV games will be shown.
Mountain West football and basketball games also will air on CBS Sports, FOX Sports and the MW App that is powered by Kiswe.
The Mountain West is in the final season of a six-year, $270 million deal with CBS and Fox.
Starting in the fall, the conference will feature UNLV, UNR, Air Force, Hawaii, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Jose State, UTEP and Wyoming for football after five schools departed to the Pac-12 during realignment.
