Nevada drivers are about a dollar away from their breaking point with gas prices.
Nevada drivers are 93 cents away from their “breaking point” when it comes to gas prices, according to a study from What Are The Best. The current price for a gallon of unleaded is $5.03 cents, as reported by AAA on Monday, with a breaking point of $5.96, said the study
As defined by What Are The Best, the breaking point is where “fuel prices are simply unaffordable and will cause major disruptions in their everyday lives.”
Some states have already surpassed their reported breaking points. In California, the price per gallon is at $5.94, however residents had a reported breaking point of $5.10.
The median national breaking point is $4.93 per gallon, when “Americans say gas would become truly unaffordable.”
The study also said around 29 percent of drivers have already changed behaviors due to current gas prices, like cancelling vacations. Gas prices are already affecting summer travel plans with over 44 percent saying they have planned fewer trips, closer destinations or cancelling road trips altogether.
Over 70 percent believe gas prices will keep climbing. Most Americans, around 69 percent, have no confidence the government will bring down prices and almost 32 percent have no confidence at all.
What Are The Best surveyed 2,000 adults, 40 respondents per state, weighted by age, income, and urban/rural distribution.
Gas prices typically rise during times of conflict.
On March 2, two days after the conflict in the Middle East began, gas prices in Southern Nevada sat at $3.70 per gallon. Now, it continues to climb, with Nevada sitting at the No. 5 spot in the country for unleaded and diesel, with California leading the pack.
The record high for Las Vegas gas prices was $5.61 per gallon and $5.67 statewide, which were both set on June 16, 2022, according to AAA. This was caused by amid supply chain issues, heightened demand coming out of the peak of the pandemic and the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
