A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend in the southwest Las Vegas Valley, police said Wednesday.
Authorities received a call at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from a woman stating her ex-boyfriend was picking up property at their apartment on Durango Drive near Blue Diamond Road.
The woman could be heard saying the man was threatening her with a firearm before the phone call disconnected, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
Arriving officers entered the apartment and found an unresponsive woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a news conference Tuesday night, Metro Lt. Robert Price had referred to the suspect as the woman’s boyfriend.
“The boyfriend and girlfriend used to live together and he was over collecting his things,” Price said. “At some point in time, the boyfriend pulled out a firearm and began threatening the female, then shot her.”
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Police said Wednesday that through the course of the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jorge Garcia.
Garcia was located by police and and was taken into custody without incident.
Garcia was transported to the Clark County Detention Center, where he faces a charge of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
The identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
