The Clark County School District Police Department’s leader announced Thursday that he’ll retire from his role at the end of this school year.
Chief Henry “Mike” Blackeye told Superintendent Jhone Ebert he will cap off a more than 23-year career with the school district when the 2025-26 school year comes to a close.
Blackeye joined the school district’s Police Department in 2003 as a school police officer at Monaco Middle School. District leaders named Blackeye interim police chief in 2020, and he officially took over the position in 2022. Before joining the school district, Blackeye said, he served as a tribal police officer on the Duckwater Shoshone Indian Reservation.
“It has been an honor to serve as the Chief of Police for the Clark County School District,” Blackeye said in a statement. “I’m truly grateful to work alongside such amazing officers and support staff who deserve all the credit for the Department’s accomplishments and improvements in school safety. I look forward to watching the Department progress in the future, and I’m confident they are prepared to excel in their mission to protect our students and staff.”
The district thanked Blackeye for his “steadfast commitment and dedication to safety for all CCSD employees and students.”
“The District appreciates Chief Blackeye’s prioritizing student and staff safety,” Ebert said in a statement. “I wish him the very best on his much-earned retirement. Thank you for your service to our schools and our community.”
The district said it will soon name an interim police chief and conduct a national search to find potential candidates for the job, according to the statement.
