Google it. An internet-search giant is launching internet service in Las Vegas.
Google Fiber will start providing internet service, under the name GFiber, in Summerlin on Tuesday.
GFiber, owned by Silicon Valley tech giant Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., will host a launch event and product demonstration that is open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at El Dorado Cantina in Tivoli Village. It also will open a new office that day in the Meridian office complex near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Hualapai Way.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be in Las Vegas,” said Melani Griffith, GFiber’s chief growth officer. “We’ve been working very closely with the City Council and Clark County Commission to make sure we’re doing all the right things and bringing this great technology to Las Vegas.”
Clark County commissioners in February 2024 approved a franchise agreement with Google Fiber to service unincorporated areas of the county, and the Las Vegas City Council in June 2024 approved a franchise agreement with the company to provide services within the city limits.
GFiber’s construction teams have been laying its fiber-optic cables since they broke ground in January 2025.
“We are fiber first, meaning what we put in the ground and what we make available to our customers is 100 percent fiber, providing the customers with the same speed when they download something and upload something,” Griffith said. “Other providers’ infrastructure is on coax. That simply will not allow for the same volume of speeds that we provide and also not the same level of reliability.”
GFiber charges $70 per month for its 1 gigabit “core” internet, the same price since the service launched in 2012. The service charges $100 per month for its 3 gigabit “home” internet and $150 per month for its 8 gigabit “edge” internet. Routers are included and there are no charges for installation, activation or equipment. There are no contracts and no data caps.
Now in 19 states, GFiber will initially be available in Nevada only in Summerlin before expanding to Paradise and other areas. Those interested can go to gfiber.com and enter their address to see if coverage is available or when it will be in the future.
“We are here to invest in Las Vegas for the long term,” Griffith said.
