Prep football roundup: Basic pulls away in 4th quarter to beat Virgin Valley

Rylee McCarty caught two touchdown passes and had an interception on defense to help Basic pull away in the fourth quarter Thursday for a 38-28 road victory over Virgin Valley at Mesquite.

Andrew Rodriguez threw three TD passes for the Wolves, connecting with Louden Cahill on the other. Carl Napoleon scored on a 65-yard run to lead the running game.

Basic (3-1) plays at Canyon Springs Sept. 18, and Virgin Valley (0-5) hosts Pahrump Valley Sept. 25.

Legacy 28, Spring Valley 0: At Spring Valley, Cameron Turner carried 24 times for 150 yards as the Longhorns pulled away in the second half for a win over the Grizzlies.

Jacory Jackson added 100 yards and two scores on 10 carries for Legacy (3-1), which plays at Clark Sept. 18. Spring Valley (2-2) plays at Green Valley Sept. 18.

Shadow Ridge 57, Mojave 14: At Mojave, Isaiah Jones rushed 14 times for 111 yards and two TDs in the Mustangs’ rout over the Rattlers.

Shadow Ridge (2-2) hosts Desert Pines Sept. 18, and Mojave (0-4) hosts Centennial Sept. 18.

Palo Verde 38, Durango 18: At Palo Verde, Cooper Roberts completed 16 of 20 passes for 201 yards and three TDs to lead the eighth-ranked Panthers past the Trailblazers.

X’Zavier McZeal had four catches for 78 yards and two scores to help Palo Verde (4-0), which plays at Moapa Valley Sept. 18. Durango (1-3) hosts Silverado Sept. 18.

Silverado 36, Canyon Springs 18: At Silverado, the Skyhawks used a balanced offensive attack to pull away in the second quarter of their victory over the Pioneers.

Silverado (2-2) plays at Durango Sept. 18, and Canyon Springs (0-3) hosts Basic Sept. 18.

Moapa Valley 42, Clark 35: At Clark, the Pirates pulled away in the third quarter and survived a late rally to beat the Chargers.

Moapa (4-1) hosts Palo Verde Sept. 18, and Clark (3-1) hosts Legacy Sept. 18.

Rancho 31, Cheyenne 14: At Rancho, Carlos Loza had a TD run and a TD reception, and nabbed an interception on defense to lead the Rams past the Desert Shields for their first win since Aug. 22, 2025.

Rancho (1-2) hosts Las Vegas Sept. 18, and Cheyenne (1-3) hosts Western Sept. 18.

Cimarron-Memorial 31, Western 7: At Western, the Spartans blew it open in the second quarter and rolled to a victory over the Warriors.

Cimarron (1-3) hosts Bonanza Sept. 18, and Western (0-4) plays at Cheyenne Sept. 18.

Foothill 35, Las Vegas 28: At Las Vegas High, the seventh-ranked Falcons controlled the second half to hand the Wildcats a loss.

Foothill (3-1) plays at Liberty Sept. 18, and Las Vegas (1-3) plays at Rancho Sept. 18.
