LETTER: Condemn corporate welfare too

In response to your Thursday editorial: Dems unload on moderates, not DSA.

The commentary was filled with dull warnings and cheap talk, using the often demonized, for political purposes, word “Communism!” You even mentioned that the GOP put forth a resolution condemning socialism. You failed to mention that the real socialism is “corporate socialism or Republican socialism.” The U.S. federal government pays out an estimated $181 billion annually in corporate subsidies and direct business aid, often critically referred to as “corporate socialism” or “corporate welfare.”

The total financial support given to corporations spans direct federal spending, targeted tax code breaks, and localized government packages.

Let’s see the GOP passing a resolution condemning corporate socialism. The real socialism that is more aligned with the destruction of America’s free market and the force behind the buying of our elected officials. The buying of our elected officials, through lobbying, is the greatest threat to our political system. Congressman and Senators spend 75% of their time fund raising and 25% of their time legislating. If we are going to be cautious of the word “socialism,” this must include socialism for the rich too.
