LETTER: Blame Trump for public mistrust in elections

In response to your July 21 editorial on election fraud:

Are there potential issues with election security. Yes. But the issues are more potential than actual. And you have ignored the biggest reason people are losing trust in the validity of elections: Donald Trump, with his baseless accusations, continues to foment distrust.

Mr. Trump’s ego refuses to allow him to believe it was possible for him to lose the 2000 election, so he doubles down with his commitment to the Big Lie theory: Repeat often enough, and people will believe you.

In spite of a complete recount in Georgia and the clown show in Arizona, no instances of systemic fraud have been found. And few individual instances have been identified. How could massive fraud have occurred and still not one participant has come forward to identify it? There certainly has not been any proof of any organized fraudulent voting.

Review-Journal columnist Victor Joecks argues that people can forge verification signatures. He ran an experiment which started with a valid signature that was copied and recopied. In reality, however, there is a very low probability that a random signature, without one to copy, will resemble that of a particular voter.

We should tighten up of some things, such as vote harvesting. But the real basis for the distrust in elections comes from Mr. Trump alone, and the Review-Journal is unable to hold him accountable for anything.
