
When my granddaughters were freshmen in high school, a teacher suggested to their class that, when they saw a veteran while “out and about,” they should smile and say to the veteran, “Thank you for your service.” That was more than eight years ago, and they still do it. That’s all — just, “Thank you for your service,” with a smile.
I have seen veterans look startled, then happy — with many almost in tears. What a simple thing. Tell your family. Ask them to try it — simple and important.
