In response to Richard N. Velotta’s Friday story on Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority CEO Steve Hill’s raise to $566,756 and bonus of $240,603:
Are you kidding me — $807,359 for a raise and bonus? Let’s not forget the surcharges the casinos and hotels place on our visitors and residence.
The convention authority has been a cash cow for a select few with political ties. I think the agency should be disbanded or issue a reduction of salaries. How can you justify Mr. Hill’s proposed salary and bonus? You can’t.
The current visitor numbers to Las Vegas are declining. Mandatory charges issued by resorts anger visitors and residents. These raises and bonuses are not needed nor can they be justified. The convention authority should be proposing salary cuts and no bonuses. In addition, it should be funded by the casinos and hotels only and not the visitors. There’s nothing worse after a three-day trip to Las Vegas than finding all these additional charges on your hotel bill. This can be identified only as pure greed.
Enough is enough on these surcharges. Let’s not forget what happened over the $20 bottle of water. Visitors just don’t return.
As the Las Vegas community increases in population, we cannot afford such greedy practices anymore.
