In his Thursday letter, Fred Bilello writes that we should discontinue using Pakistan as an intermediary in the Iran negotiations owing to their former friendship with Osama bin Laden and North Korea and their anti-Israel attitude. In this day, it is not surprising to see former enemies becoming today’s bedfellows. Japan and Germany are good examples with the United States.
The negotiations with Iran are difficult, and the United States needs to use those who are most effective in conjunction with its efforts. If there were countries more capable, the United States would be using them. None of the U.S. allies is complaining about this relationship. So with world shipping at risk, I would stay with Pakistan, as long as some progress is being made.
