A 911 call released Wednesday captured the chaotic moments that unfolded after Las Vegas police said a man fatally shot his sister’s boyfriend.

The Metropolitan Police Department responded May 31 to a home in the 6400 block of Jade Mountain Court, near Torrey Pines Drive and Windmill Lane, after receiving a 911 call just before 5:20 a.m. from a woman who said her brother had just shot her boyfriend.

Shortly after the shooting, Lt. Robert Price said that police arrived and rendered medical aid to the boyfriend, who was later identified as Demetrius Jordan, 25. Police said Jordan died at the scene.

Much of what the woman said is difficult to discern because the recording released by Metro was heavily redacted with bleeps. A Metro incident report redacted the name of the woman and her brother.

The woman repeatedly pleaded for help and spoke with a man beside her while on the phone with dispatchers. At several points during the 12-minute phone call, she sounded overcome with emotion.

After telling the man next to her to put the gun down, she asked him to help turn her boyfriend over, according to the call. She then explained to the call operator how the shooting unfolded.

‘Keep pumping his chest’

“Please get an ambulance,” the woman told 911. “Please, my boyfriend was beating me up and my brother — he was going to attack my brother, and my brother shot him.”

The woman told the 911 operator her boyfriend had been shot in the neck, and a male voice told the 911 operator a few moments later it appeared that the woman’s boyfriend was still breathing.

The 911 operator then told the woman to try to roll her boyfriend on his side to help him breathe. Within minutes, the woman reported that he had stopped breathing, prompting the 911 operator to begin giving CPR instructions.

“Keep pumping his chest until we can get someone to take over,” the dispatcher told the callers.

Shortly after that, law enforcement appeared to arrive at the scene. The woman appeared to tell someone arriving at the scene what led to the shooting, as the dispatcher disconnected the call.

The Clark County coroner’s office said Jordan died of multiple gunshot wounds. Jordan’s manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Shooting being reviewed for self-defense

The woman later told detectives that Jordan had battered and strangled her multiple times in the hours before her brother shot him.

Police said they believed Jordan was battering his girlfriend when her brother heard the assault, went upstairs and saw his sister being beaten.

According to the report, the man yelled at Jordan to let his sister go, drew a Kimber 1911 pistol and told Jordan to stop.

“Demetrius then jumped up and started to rush (redacted), yelling that he was going to kill him,” the report said. “(Redacted) then fired two times, striking Demetrius. They then immediately called 911 and began rendering aid.”

Price said following the shooting that police were not planning on pursuing charges against the shooter, though a determination would be made by the Clark County district attorney’s office.

Adryanna Sheppard, a spokeswoman for the Clark County District Attorney’s office, said in an email Wednesday it did not have an update on the self-defense determination.
