PWHL Las Vegas is bringing championship experience to its roster, signing defender Erin Ambrose and forward Hayley Scamurra, the team announced Monday.
Ambrose is signing a two-year contract, while Scamurra lands a three-year deal after playing last season with the Walter Cup champion Montreal Victoire.
Scamurra, 31, is a native of Buffalo, New York. She totaled four points for Montreal in the playoffs last season after appearing in all 30 games during the regular season.
She has 14 goals and 29 points in 79 career games after selected in the fifth round by the Ottawa Charge in 2023.
Scamurra became the first player ever to win a gold medal and a Walter Cup in the same season. She’s one of 14 players in the PWHL who has won Olympic gold, IIHF world championship gold and a Walter Cup.
This is Scamurra’s fourth team in four years. She was traded to Toronto in December 2024, then signed with Montreal in June 2025.
Ambrose, 32, had two assists in nine playoff games last year. The sixth overall pick in the inaugural PWHL draft in 2023, Ambrose recorded 37 points in 73 career games with the Victoire.
A native of Keswick, Ontario, Ambrose’ plus-24 rating is the best among defenders in league history. She’s a two-time Olympic medalist, capturing gold with Hockey Canada in 2022 and silver in 2026.
Scamurra and Ambrose give Las Vegas four players signed through the six-phase expansion distribution process. Vegas signed former Minnesota Frost defenders Mae Batherson and Kendall Cooper to two-year contracts on Saturday.
Each expansion team can acquire up to five players through signings and a player selection process.
That fifth player will be Hilary Knight, who will be re-routed to expansion Detroit as part of a sign-and-trade. Las Vegas will acquire a first-round pick from Detroit for the PWHL Draft on June 17.
