Carter Hart wears ‘Tombstone’-themed mask for Golden Knights’ playoff run

Carter Hart has featured a wide range of artwork on his goalie mask throughout his NHL career, from musicians to comic book characters.

His current theme is inspired by the 1993 movie “Tombstone.”

The Vegas Golden Knights netminder unveiled the new mask, which was created by artist Franny Drummond of Paint Zoo Studios, at the start of the playoffs. It has featured prominently in the Knights’ run to the Stanley Cup Final.

On the right side of the mask are portraits of Wyatt Earp — played by actor Kurt Russell — and Bill Pullman’s Morgan Earp. A U.S. Marshal badge also is present.

Doc Holliday, famously portrayed by Val Kilmer, stars on the left side of Hart’s mask with Virgil Earp (Sam Elliott) rounding out the Western theme.

Kilmer’s classic quote “I’m your huckleberry” is on the backplate with the Knights logo and a cross. The Knights logo also is painted on the top of the helmet with “Hart” in a Western-style font across the chin.

Hart used a simple design for his first mask with the Knights after signing a two-year, $4 million contract in October. During his time in Henderson when he was not allowed to play in the NHL, Hart’s nondescript, white mask had swords on the front with his number 79 on the chin and Knights’ logos on either side.

After he joined the Knights, Hart had a Johnny Cash-themed mask from the Man In Black’s Vegas heyday. But that disappeared in favor of his current “Tombstone” helmet.

When Hart played for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2018 to 2024, one of his masks paid tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022. Hart said in a 2023 interview with WMMR in Philadelphia that Foo Fighters are his dad’s favorite band.

Hart also had masks with AC/DC and country singer Tim McGraw.

Early in his career with the Flyers, Hart’s masks were inspired by Marvel characters such as Carnage and Venom.
