A fire involving six vehicles Wednesday at Harry Reid International Airport has prompted the closure and evacuation of the Terminal 1 parking garage, officials said.
The Clark County Fire Department responded just before 3:10 p.m. to reports of a fire at the parking garage. Crews arrived to find the vehicles on fire on an upper floor, according to an email from Kenny Holding, a senior deputy fire chief with the Fire Department.
“Due to a vehicle fire, all entrances to the Terminal 1 parking garage are temporarily closed while the incident is being cleared,” an airport spokesperson said in an email. “At this time, travelers are advised to head to Terminal 3 parking garage.”
Two people were treated from smoke inhalation, Holding said. The blaze was extinguished and its cause was being investigated.
The Metropolitan Police Department also said it responded to the fire and that officers were helping firefighters with the evacuation of the parking garage.
Police have asked the public to avoid the area at this time. The airport said travelers using the airport could expect delays Wednesday.
”At this time, travelers are advised to head to Terminal 3 parking garage,” the statement from the airport spokesperson said.
