A man who police said was killed by his girlfriend’s brother during a domestic dispute Sunday in the southwest Las Vegas Valley has been identified.
The Clark County coroner’s office said Demetrius Jordan, 25, of Las Vegas, died of multiple gunshot wounds. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Robert Price said police received a 911 call around 5 a.m. from a home in the 6400 block of Jade Mountain Court, near Torrey Pines Drive and Windmill Lane. The female caller said her brother had just shot her boyfriend, he said.
Jordan died at the scene.
Police said they believe Jordan was battering his girlfriend when the woman’s brother heard the assault, went upstairs and saw his sister being beaten.
“After several attempts to get the individual to stop, he produced a firearm and he shot the victim,” Price said.
The brother’s name has not been released. Price said as of Sunday they were not planning on pursuing charges against him.
“There are elements of self-defense,” Price said Sunday. “However, we have to complete a thorough investigation first before we present that to the DA’s office.”
Further information on the shooting had not been released as of Wednesday.
