A man stabbed his older brother about 26 times in the backyard of their east Las Vegas Valley home, killing him, according to an arrest report.
The Metropolitan Police Department arrested Eder Castrejon, 23, on May 21 in the killing of his brother, Arturo Castrejon, 34. He faces one count of open murder with a deadly weapon, online Las Vegas Justice Court records show.
The report said police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 6300 block of Peach Orchard Road, near East Sahara Avenue and North Hollywood Boulevard, shortly after 11:30 p.m. on May 21. Police said Eder Castrejon lived at the home with Arturo Castrejon, their mother and two sisters.
Officers detained Eder Castrejon at the front of the residence and provided medical aid to Arturo Castrejon before he was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died shortly after midnight on Friday, the report said. The Clark County coroner’s office determined Arturo Castrejon died of multiple stab wounds.
A coroner investigator determined that Arturo Castrejon had approximately 26 sharp-force trauma injuries, including about 14 to his back, according to the report.
Eder Castrejon told police he got into two arguments with his brother on the afternoon of May 21 over an uncleaned toilet. He said he grew frustrated hearing Arturo Castrejon outside his bedroom that night and went to the backyard with an open knife in his pocket and a BB gun to shoot cans, the report said.
Eder Castrejon told investigators Arturo Castrejon went outside and began antagonizing him, according to the report.
“Eder started to feel scared when Arturo was in his face, and he placed his hand on the knife in his pocket,” the report said. “As Arturo was yelling, he placed his hands onto Eder’s shoulders. Eder thought he was going to tackle him, so he dropped the BB gun, pulled his knife out of his right pocket and started stabbing Arturo on the side.”
Their mother told police that she witnessed her sons get into a physical altercation, went outside and yelled upon seeing Arturo Castrejon on the ground surrounded by blood, the report said. She added that Arturo Castrejon told her earlier that day that his brother had a knife and was going to stab him.
Her screams drew the attention of two neighbors who told police they were in their backyard and did not hear any fighting, the report said. One neighbor told investigators in the report that they heard Eder Castrejon say he stabbed his brother because he was attacked.
Inside the home, Eder Castrejon told one of his sisters, “I didn’t mean to kill him,” “I didn’t mean to do it” and “I told you to kick him out,” the woman told police, according to the report. Eder Castrejon was holding a knife while he spoke, she said.
Officers found a folding knife with apparent blood on its handle and blade inside the home, on top of mail addressed to Eder Castrejon, the report said.
Eder Castrejon’s bail hearing is scheduled for Monday, online court records show.
