A suspected impaired golf cart driver crashed into several pedestrians at Lake Las Vegas on Saturday night, sending one person to the hospital, police said.
A Henderson Police Department spokesperson said in an email Monday that the driver struck the pedestrians near the Luna Rossa restaurant at The Village at Lake Las Vegas just before 7:50 p.m. on Saturday. Police said they believe speed and impairment were contributing factors.
One person was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and two others involved in the incident declined medical treatment and transport, police said.
Officers arrested Christopher Doyle in connection with the incident, police said. He faces one felony DUI count, according to online Henderson Justice Court records.
Xander Holm, head of security at The Village at Lake Las Vegas, said the golf cart driver ran into him after he instructed the driver not to park near the entrance of Luna Rossa.
The golf cart’s glass windshield shattered when it struck him, Holm said, injuring his back, neck, left shoulder and left Achilles tendon. In pain, Holm said he later helped move the golf cart off another person who was pinned under it.
“I just remember just getting hit and trying to assist and help in any way that I could,” Holm said. “Thank goodness for our security and staff that we have on site for responding.”
Holm said he was hospitalized for his injuries, but was released later Saturday night. He is now working with a chiropractor to heal, he said.
“We still want people to come on out and enjoy the beauty of The Village at Lake Las Vegas,” Holm said. “We’re still looking out for the safety of people at the property.”
