Flavor Flav’s iconic outfits with a wall clock mid-chest and sunglasses make it so that the Grammy Award-winning performer and TV personality hardly requires an introduction.
On Tuesday, he was so eager to pitch his proposal for a weekend celebration of female U.S. Olympic and Paralympic medalists that he forgot to state his name before the Clark County Commission, a meeting rule.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” he said. “My name is Flavor Flav; William Drayton.”
With formalities out of the way, he went on to tout his partnership with MGM Resorts for “SHE Weekend,” an extravaganza that will bring more than 100 athletes who participated in the recent Winter Olympics, including the gold medal-winning hockey team.
The application was filed on behalf of his She’s Got Game, LLC.
Commissioners unanimously approved the weekend’s highlight, a parade down the Strip and a concert at Toshiba Plaza.
Funny moment from today’s Clark County Commission meeting. Flavor Flav was there for approval of a planned LV Strip parade for US women’s Olympic athletes in July. Chair Michael Naft had to interrupt to get Flav to state his name for the record. #vegas #sheweekend pic.twitter.com/8ltkHlwVzp

“I’m honored to bring these United States Olympic athletes here to Las Vegas,” he said before he was interrupted to formally introduce himself. “I am a girl dad and… I am a big supporter of women’s sports.”
He thanked Clark County and Nevada for understanding his vision for the celebration.
“There’s no better city for me to have these girls celebrate their winnings than Las Vegas,” he said. “I’m quite sure that athletes are going to appreciate it more.”
The weekend will kick off at 8 p.m. on July 16 with Flavor Flav’s SHE Celebration Parade. The procession, expected to attract 6,000 attendees, will begin at the Bellagio, head down Las Vegas Boulevard, and turn west onto Bruno Mars Drive into Toshiba Plaza.
Organizers said that the Las Vegas Aces, Raiders and Golden Knights will participate in the parade.
Public Enemy, the rap-pioneering group Flavor Flav co-founded, and female musicians Sheila E., Grace Bowers and Blu DeTiger were scheduled to perform at the plaza, organizers said. The athletes will receive a ceremonial key to the Strip.
Total attendance for that day’s free events is estimated at 10,000. Nightclub and pool parties are slated for the following three days.
He said that the weekend is not only a celebration of the athletes, but a call to action for lasting social change in women’s sports.
Flavor Flav threw his hands in the air and bowed before the Commission vote.
