It has only been four days since Spirit Airlines shut down and thousands of workers have been laid off across the country.
According to an official notice, the airline laid off 999 workers in Las Vegas alone, and Nevada has responded to help laid-off workers in the Silver State.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) is hosting two Rapid Response events on Thursday, May 7, to assist workers impacted by the recent layoffs, held simultaneously in Las Vegas and Reno. The Rapid Response events connect affected workers with immediate support and resources to help with the struggle of losing a job.
The events will allow former Spirit employees access to career and job search assistance, training and upskilling opportunities through EmployNV, information and guidance on Unemployment Insurance (UI) and details on healthcare options and available community services.
The Las Vegas event will be held at EmployNV Career Hub at 3405 S. Maryland Parkway. The EmployNV Career Hub’s Reno location at 4001 S. Virginia Street, Suite 11, will host the other event. Both events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
These events are free, open to the public, and designed to provide personalized assistance to anyone affected by the layoffs.
