Katie Sweeney, the former CEO of the Broker Action Coalition, is joining Rocket Pro as executive vice president of strategy and broker advocacy.
The change comes 10 months after she moved over to the BAC as it separated its leadership from the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts. Sweeney had been the chairman and CEO of AIME starting in January 2021 after one year as its EVP of strategy.
Sweeney has been transitioning to a board advisor role at BAC, it was previously announced. Rachel Clark is now its executive director.
“My role is generally going to be focused around creating more opportunities for our broker partners,” Sweeney said. “A lot of that will come from aligning with the government affairs and policy teams here at Rocket, they’ve done a great job in the past of representing the entire industry and moving forward in what’s best for every one of us, and so I’m excited to bring a broker perspective into that conversation.”
Sweeney will also be working with the technology and product teams to figure out how Rocket can bring enterprise-level solutions to small mortgage brokers, small businesses and individual loans officers.
“The history of Rocket is pretty incredible,” Sweeney said. “They’ve done some amazing things in the past for consumers, but also for mortgage brokers.”
Part of her job will be to get that story out, working closely with Dan Sokorga, Rocket Pro’s general manager.
Both Sweeney and Sokorga’s positions are new ones for the business, which was recently rebranded from Rocket Pro TPO.
Her new role combines all of the experiences Sweeney has had in the past seven years serving mortgage brokers, including helping bring a technology platform to market; developing a large, diverse community to give them resources to build their businesses; and working on Capitol Hill.
This new job encapsulates all three of those things, she said, and thus she does not view this position as representing Rocket, but rather as representing the mortgage brokers who work with the lender.
Sogorka added that Sweeney’s hiring is a sign to the mortgage broker community that Rocket is committed to the business as she brings their perspectives to the table through various avenues.
“I’ve known Katie for a long time, and she’s really been the best-known broker advocate in the space,” Sogorka said. “Ever since I’ve gotten here our mission is for Rocket Pro and our partners to really be America’s most trusted home ownership team.”
Sweeney will remain based in Dallas, but will be traveling back and forth to Rocket Cos. Detroit headquarters as well as visiting as many of its partners as possible.
